This course is a instructor-led course that teaches students critical skills needed to respond to and manage an emergency until emergency medical services arrives. This course uses AHA’s research-proven practice-while-watching technique, which allows instructors to observe the students, provide feedback, and guide the students’ learning of skills.

Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED is geared towards anyone involved in childcare who have a duty to respond to illnesses and injuries in a child or infant in the first few minutes until professional help arrives. Including: childcare workers, teachers, camp counselors, etc. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a course completion card, valid for two years. The BLS advisor course is for candidates with disabilities who pass the AHA BLS course and have knowledge of BLS skills but, due to a disability, cannot complete the psychomotor skills testing portion of BLS that is required for the BLS provider course completion card.  By successfully communicating to someone else how to perform CPR, these candidates with disabilities can receive an Advisor BLS card instead of the regular BLS provider card

HeartCode BLS is the AHA’s blended learning delivery method for the BLS Course. HeartCode blended learning delivers quality resuscitation education regardless of where providers are located and gives them more control to complete the course at their own pace. Providers first complete the online portion of HeartCode BLS and then complete a hands-on skills session with an AHA BLS Instructor or on a simulation station.

This Heartsaver® CPR AED course is exclusively for K-12 students, faculty, and staff.

The Heartsaver CPR AED course is designed to prepare students to perform CPR  and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely, and effective manner. Heartsaver courses are designed to be flexible and customizable with optional modules, and are intended for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course. 

After successfully completing the Heartsaver CPR AED course, students should be able to:

  • describe how high-quality CPR improves survival
  • explain the concepts of the Chain of Survival
  • recognize when someone needs CPR
  • perform high-quality CPR for an adult alone or as a team member during multi-rescuer CPR (child and infant CPR modules are optional)
  • give effective breaths using mouth-to-mouth or a barrier device for all age groups
  • demonstrate how to use an AED on an adult (child and infant AED modules are optional)
  • describe when and how to help a choking adult or child (infant choking module is optional).

Upon successful completion of each course, including relevant skills testing, students receive a course completion card that is valid for two years.
